Summer Rayne Oakes lives in a 1,200-square-foot-apartment in Brooklyn. Not to let her lack of an outdoor space deter her green thumb, Oakes shares her apartment with over 500 plants, including a living wall, an irrigated vertical garden constructed out of mason jars, and edible plants like herbs and greens, and even a pineapple plant.

Oakes is not just a passionate indoor gardener, she's also a model, fierce activist and busy entrepreneur. A Cornell graduate with degrees in Environmental Science and Entomology, Oakes has launched several companies focused on food and fashion sustainability. Keep up the good fight, Summer! We're so thankful for you.
